In the course of my freelance writing, I have written about a huge variety of subjects – everything from criminal ancestors, Scouting and baby’s bathtime through to choosing carpets, going green and Victorian Christmas cards. History and heritage features
My very first freelance features were about history and heritage, celebrating Britain's rich and colourful past. These features are often linked with my social history books, family history, historical anniversaries or historic places to visit.

Homes and interiors features
I have written homes and interiors features since 1996 for a wide range of publications. The types of features vary from buyer’s guides, creating a specific look, general round-ups and readers’ homes.

Education and children’s features
As a former primary school teacher, I have a particular interest in educational topics, especially environmental education and PSHE. I also write non-fiction features for the children’s magazine Aquila. Click on the links below to view examples of my education and children's features.
Environmental features
My interest in the environment has grown since I started working as a field teacher at the Dudley Environment Zone. While the environment is currently a topical subject, I believe it will continue to be so in years to come. For two years, I wrote a green column for Period House which encouraged readers to go green at home.
